I've read a lot of comments about how a commander will go MIA and the alliance dissolves as a result.  As a commander myself I understand that I will log in to the game and my alliance chat on Line at least once a day minimum in order to make sure that all is well.  Now, let's say I want to take a vacation and I can't log in?  What do I do?  Tell my S-I-C's to do the best they can?  Promote one of my seconds to commander while I'm gone and hope that they hand my alliance back to me when I get back?  Sorry, I've met some awesome people in this game but I'd be hard pressed to do that.....

What I wonder is if Camel can add an option of 'Temporary Commander' to the game.  The idea would be that the commander chooses one of the SIC's, then specify's the amount of time that they want to switch the commanding officer.  Once the end time criteria is met (ie. July, 31 at 11:59PM) the acting commander would automatically be set back to SIC and the commander would be put back into place.  

The promotion/demotion of the two players concerned would be fully automated and handled by the game.  The only thing done on the players end would be dates and times set by the commander.  And perhaps a request to the SIC so the system knows all players have agreed to the temporary change.

sic can do everything the commander can do except remove the other sics and the commander. or am i wrong?

Yes, SIC can do all the commander can except promoting and demoting and giving out gear, and I think this is a great idea, it should solve all the 'dissolving' problems when a commander goes MIA for a few days. Well done! :)

Havent had a MIA commander yet, though.
Can't wait to be a high enough level for the Level 7 Units!

Being in a low 4 alliance, we have some lower lvl players. It seems like when our commander does go MIA for a couple of days, and me being a SIC, I get several messages asking where the commander went, what happened, are we still an alliance? Seems like a lot of overreaction to me, but sometimes perception can make or break an alliance. I do agree with this idea when the commander does know when he's going to be gone. But there are also times when something happens all of a sudden and a commander can't give way temp control. In that case, you'd want there to be an SIC override feature, but I doubt that would ever happen.

FORTUNATLY for me, I have a close IRL friend who I have entrusted commander to, safe in the knowlage he will command well. If I didn't have him....

Yeah, the idea I had was when the commander would know that they'd be gone.  As for the unplanned absences I'm still not sure how to best handle that....
